2012-3 OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) OS X version 10.9, also known as 'Mavericks', is the tenth major release of OS X, Apple Inc's desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers. Mac Support Specialist: Jon, Mac Enthusiast replied 1 year ago Don't worry, first, it is going to 'download' so it will look like its doing nothing but you should be able to click on the 'purchased' area of the app store and see it downloading. The info under the apple about this Mac still reads OS 10.9.5. I'd recommend to upgrade the OS X to latest macOS version.
Not only that, Apple has replaced iPhoto with a new app named Photos from Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite onwards, to be compatible with iCloud and the new Photos app on your iPhone. Mac OS X 10.9 is about 4 years old is almost obsolete. The issue you are having is a compatibility issue.
the most likable option with the Mac OS system is that it has a very user-friendly software that doesn't take a lot of time to start working on it efficiently. There are a lot of features that make the Mac operating systems a class apart from other standard operating systems that are available in the market. Sent someone to my house to fetch another mbp, one that had a matching iphoto version originally used to created the library. The mac system is possibly one of the operating systems that have the versatility in terms of swiftness in performance. I have however resolved my issue with the iphoto library. In total 7 differnet versions were downloaded.īut indeed, prior to each install, the existing version was deleted and trash was emptied before attempting an upgrade to a newer version. I downloaded the various versions via torrent, and 2 versions were available for download on apple's website. On every occasion, app store said there was no update. No matter which version of iphoto started up, there was always a message saying it could not be used with the current os and must be updated. I also saw a post somewhere advising setting permissions on the ext drive containing the iphoto library to "ignore ownership on this volume" I have run disk utility on all drives, verifying permissions - no errors.
Run software update - no update available.Įssentially, when trying to have photos import the existing iphoto library, photos gets to about 10%, freezes, and throws out an error message regards permissions.
Remove all traces of 9.3 and install 9.1, try run it - error message - iphoto needs latest version. Run software update > no update available.ĭownload iphoto (various versions from between 9.3 and 9.5.2)ĭelete existing version of iphoto and try install 9.3 - error message, iphoto needs v9.1 to perform this update. Try to run iphoto - error - iphoto needs to be updated to the latest version. So, i figure i'll boot the machine from a clone backup i took of the drive prior to the mavericks > yosemite upgrade, thinking i'll run iphoto from there and copy the various albums / folders to a different ext drive, boot back into yosemite and allow photos to create a new library and import the various album folders.
I then discover that the very latest updated version of yosemite will not accept any version of iphoto, only option is to downgrade yosemite to an earlier version.
Run software update - no later version available. Downloaded and installed iphoto 9.6.1 - error message - iphoto needs to be updated to the latest version (which 9.6.1 is).
